Favorite Organ Clinic Selections Wednesday, February 24, 2010

Stanton's Sheet Music had a good crowd of people at our January 16th 2010 organ clinic held at Broad Street United Methodist Church in Columbus, OH, with clinician Brian Johnson.

Bunn=Minnick Pipe Organ Company was represented and available to talk with people that day about the organ building and restoration work that they do. One of the most popular pieces at the clinic was “The Church in the Wildwood.” This arrangement of a beloved American favorite is made more fun and exciting by the inclusion of excerpts from “Battle Hymn of the Republic,” and “St. Gertrude” (“Onward Christian Soldiers”) and is written in a tongue-in-cheek march style.

Another top-seller was “Four Hymn Improvisations for Organ Vol. II” arranged by Fredrick Swann. It includes the titles “To God Be the Glory,” “Spirit of God, Descend Upon My Heart,” “More Love to Thee,” and “Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee.”

Especially recommended by our clinician is the collection “Sunday Morning Organist Vol. 5: Best of the Saint Cecilia Series.” This is a valuable collection for every organist to have, as it includes the most famous of pieces from the original H. W. Gray series. There are a variety of arrangements in the book including hymn tunes, Christmas, Wedding, American folk melodies and more.

With a very successful organ clinic behind us, we look now to the next organ clinic that will be held in the late summer, welcoming back Brian Johnson as our clinician.
