How proud we are to be 50! Tuesday, August 17, 2010

It’s been long, fun ride to our 50th Anniversary.  When John Stanton started the company in 1960, I’m sure that he never thought about the business being 50 years old.  But now we are, thanks to the vision he and Jim Strouse had.  John had a long career as the band director of Bexley High School. After he left teaching, he was working for a local music store–running their sheet music department–when he realized there was a greater need for him to open his own store.  John understood the needs of music educators and professional musicians from his previous days and understood that he could be of help.  John hosted choral and band reading sessions, and created school and church mailing lists to help promote the company’s products.  After 15 years in the business, John sold it to Jim Strouse, who was also a former band director and music store retailer.  With the combination of John’s knowledge of customer needs and Jim’s customer relations, the company rapidly grew to twice its size within three years.  Today, the company is still going strong and looking at its past with pride.

Now here we are…50 years later!  The Stanton’s staff celebrated Monday, August 2nd with a ceremony/party.  A 50 foot banner was hung above the accounting department and balloons were placed all around the store.  The staff sat down to lunch together, catered by the current owner’s favorite restaurant–Happy Dragon.  Even though the day was business as usual for the customers, for the staff it was a special day that only comes once, and celebrating the 50th was a high priority for everyone!  We’d like to thank all of our customers for their support over the past 50 years and for helping us make this day happen.
