New and Recommended for Orchestra! Wednesday, September 01, 2010

Are you looking for a holiday classic for your high school orchestra? Stanton’s Dan Clark recommends A CHRISTMAS FESTIVAL, by Leroy Anderson and arranged by Michael Story.

This classic holiday masterpiece is now available to string orchestras thanks to this faithful adaptation of the original full orchestra version as performed by the Boston Pops at its premiere in the 1950s.  All the great melodies are present in this very playable arrangement, so everyone knows the tunes.  You'll have to work on transitions between songs and carols as well as key changes (watch out for E major!) and time signatures, but once they are nailed down, you can count on this being a traditionally spectacular opening or closing piece for holiday concerts year after year.  It has and will continue to stand the test of time!
