The Decade Series: Songs of the 20′s Wednesday, April 09, 2014
“Songs of the 20′s” is the next collection of popular sheet music in The Decade Series. More hit songs were coming from the Broadway musicals; “ Ol’ Man River” from Showboat and “You’re the Cream in My Coffee” from Follow Thru are two examples. Vaudeville was still big. “Paddelin’ Madeline Home” and “Let a Smile be Your Umbrella” came from vaudeville. It was The Jazz Age , and there were the songs “Ain’t Misbehavin’ ” and ” ‘Way Down Yonder in New Orleans” and other songs like them. Dance bands were big. They played Ted Lewis‘ “Me and My Shadow”, Isham Jones’ “Star Dust”, and more songs like those. This collection includes over fifty popular songs from the 1920′s. At the beginning of the book there is a summary and a pictorial review of the events and special people of the 20′s.
