It’s not easy to find music for alto recorder, much less for alto recorder with piano accompaniment! These pieces, Recercada 1 & 2, are by Diego Ortiz (c. 1510-c. 1570), and are at a Level Three difficulty for the alto recorder player. These pieces were written in the Renaissance era, when improvisation was a highly developed art form. Suggestions are included in this collection so that the recorder player can experiment with improvisation. The pieces are quite pleasing when played as written, also.
