Classical Transcriptions for Orchestra-Part I Tuesday, November 02, 2010

Hal Leonard Publishing recently sent out a national orchestra mailer which should have been received by most string teachers around the country.  They have a plethora of wonderful arrangements from Grade 1 to AbGrade 4 in various styles.  Here are Stanton’s choices of the best sounding, most educationally valid and most highly programmable selections from Hal Leonard’s latest offerings of Classical Transcriptions:

Grade 3/4, W. A. Mozart/arr. Jamin Hoffman
The exciting music from Mozart’s opera filled with pirates, Turkish princes, kidnapping and daring rescues.

Grade 3/4, Frederick Delius/arr. Eric Fenby
A gorgeous, artful concert setting of two contrasting movements of unaccompanied part songs by Delius is a rare treat for strings.

LA DONNA E MOBILE (From Rigoletto)
Grade 3/4, Giuseppi Verdi/arr. Jamin Hoffman
One of the most famous opera arias of all time – a musical moment sure to bring a smile to all its listeners.

WALTZ #2 (From Suite for Variety Orchestra)
Grade 3/4, Dmitri Shostakovich/arr. Paul Lavender
A jazz waltz by Shostakovich that is not only accessible by good high school groups but is also supremely programmable.
