Classical Transcriptions for Orchestra-Part II Wednesday, November 03, 2010

Hal Leonard Publishing recently sent out a national orchestra mailer which should have been received by most string teachers around the country.  They have a plethora of wonderful arrangements from Grade 1 to Grade 4 in various styles.  Here are Stanton’s choices of the best sounding, most educationally valid and most highly programmable selections from Hal Leonard’s latest offerings of Classical Transcriptions:

ROMANZA (From Horn Concerto #3, K 447)
Grade 2, W. A. Mozart/arr. Lauren Keiser
Treat young students to the melodic genius of Mozart with this beautifully rendered orchestration.

WALTZ (From Serenade for Strings)
Grade 2, P. I. Tchaikovsky/arr. Lauren Keiser
Very playable adaptation of the familiar second movement of this famous Tchaikovsky work for string orchestra.

BOCCHERINI MINUET
Grade 2, Luigi Boccherini/arr. Robert Longfield
The well-known third movement of Boccherini’s Quintet in E Major, ideally re-scored for young groups.
