New for Middle School Choirs for Fall 2013 Thursday, August 29, 2013

As you prepare for your first concert of the school year, Stanton’s Sheet Music suggests that you consider one of these outstanding selections for your middle school choir:

Get On Board in the Mornin’ arr. Audrey Snyder
A lively accompaniment, good part-writing and lots of expressive elements make this pairing of two traditional spirituals an excellent showcase for young singers.

Colorado Trail arr. Linda Spevacek
Linda Spevacek has crafted a gorgeous arrangement of this lovely folk song, complete with rich choral sonorities and a sensitive piano accompaniment. A brief a cappella section adds color, interest, and texture to this beautiful piece that is perfect for school and community choirs.

O Rushing Wind by Mark Patterson
This delightful song about hope and excitement is highly suitable for young singers. Written by Mark Patterson, the free-flowing, range-appropriate vocal line also affords opportunities for rhythmic and metric skill building.

Strike It Up, Tabor arr. John Leavitt
This spirited 3-voice madrigal by Thomas Weelkes with hand drum dances with humor and rhythmic energy! Excellent as a processional or opening number, your singers will enjoy the clever wordplay and vocal effects!

Farewell, My Own True Love arr. Tim Winebrenner
Winebrenner’s arrangement of this melancholy and haunting American folk song for 3-part mixed choir is accompanied with optional flute. The accessible lyric lines are well-constructed, providing a framework for lovely phrasing. Appropriate for concert and festival use.

There Will Come Soft Rains by Ruth Morris Gray
Pensive and poignant, the poem describes nature’s response to war. Haunting and harmonic, the music captures the ear. A perfect marriage of words and music, appropriate for developing mixed choirs as well as advanced ensembles.
