Works for Piano: Aram Khatchaturian
Most pianists know Khatchaturian’s Toccata and his Sonata best. This collection reintroduces a few pieces from his first and last periods. From his early works are the “Waltz-Caprice” and the “Dance and Poem.” In the final year of his life (1978), he wrote “Vocalise,” which is the last piece in this collection. These compositions show Khatchaturian’s sense of melody, color, and rhythms, elements which have been his signature. This is well worth exploring if you like Khatchaturian’s works.
