CROSSROAD: New Creative Titles for Tenor/Bass Choir Friday, January 09, 2026

recommended by Jen Sper, School Choral Music Specialist

Crossroad by Reginal Wright, TBB with piano and optional 2 violins
Reginal Wright’s emotional and uplifting “Crossroad” sets Robert Frost’s well-known poem “The road not taken.” A twinkling piano accompaniment supports the voices, and the optional violin duet floats above, expanding on figures from the vocal parts.

Truly Brave arr. Mac Huff, TTBB with piano
“Truly Brave” is a special mash-up of two great songs: “Brave” and “True Colors.” As a part of the NBC Today Show’s “Shine a Light” series, Hoda Kotb brought together Sara Bareilles and Cyndi Lauper to create this arrangement and to raise money and awareness for pediatric cancer. Most importantly, it captures the heart-breaking strength and live-for-the-moment attitudes that these kids with cancer have.

Willie Taylor arr. Sean Barnette, TB with piano and optional guitar
Tenor-Bass choirs of all sizes and levels will have a blast singing this Sea Shanty based a British Folk Song. Excellent ranges in all voice parts, plenty of unison and Tenor-Bass duet moments, a fun piano part, and optional guitar part make this a winner! Great fun and highly accessible.

¡Bailará! by Dan Davison, TTBB with piano, guitar and percussion
“¡Bailará!” is an original composition inspired by the flamenco tango style of Andalusia, Spain. Accompanied by piano, guitar, and percussion, this energetic work is an excellent choice for honor and festival choirs and for any occasion where a group wants to “bring the house down!”

In the Valley by Matt Podd, TTBB with piano and optional percussion
Quoting the famous lyrics by Joseph Brackett, this original setting of what we know as “Simple Gifts” utilizes a 10/8 and mixed meter with a colorful modern harmonic palette for both singers and accompaniment. There are optional percussion instruments you can add for an even more artistic experience. Absolutely beautiful!

Six Limericks by David A. Gerig, TTBB a cappella
Six humorous anonymous limericks are set here for unaccompanied TTBB choir by composer David Gerig. Choirs are invited to add movement and characterizations in performance to express the limericks.

Riversong by Andy Beck, TTBB with piano
New voicing of a bonafide winner – key adapted to fit changed Tenor/Bass voices. Fluid vocal parts glide effortlessly over a shimmering piano accompaniment in this nature-inspired contemporary choral. Musical quotes from familiar “river” songs are a noteworthy surprise at the end. An extraordinary piece, filled with symbolism!

An Earth Song by Marques L.A. Garrett, TTBB with piano
This new setting of Langston Hughes’ text celebrates the joy of new life and the beauty of this earth with flowing triplets, driving rhythms, and great joy!

Does the World Say? by Kyle Pederson, TTBB with piano and optional violin
“Take my hand, don’t let go…” This inspirational selection about the pressures the world throws at us is an empowering and lyrical work that will inspire singers and audiences. With flexible voicing, this piece is ideal for tenor-bass choirs of various voices and sizes. An optional, soaring violin part provides nice texture and balance with the flowing, rhythmic piano accompaniment.

The Little Creek by Matt Carlson, TB with piano and optional guitar
This BEST SELLER is now available for Tenor-Bass choirs! Featuring an inspiring text, “Every door you enter you find a piece of something inside you never knew,” this piece offers comfort during times of struggle. With themes of self-discovery, self-acceptance, and self-worth, the music is accessible for choirs of all levels. Unison melodies provide excellent opportunities to develop legato tone, while the part writing is both quick to learn and rewarding to sing. This heartfelt work resonates deeply with singers and audiences alike, capturing the essence of the human experience.
