Community Bands Features Part 2: Broadway Music Friday, May 28, 2010

Here we are at the end of another school year, but not everything musical winds down-summer community bands are just starting up! Across the country there are literally hundreds of community bands preparing concerts full of Broadway, Movies, Patriotic and Popular Music. As we look towards summer, Stanton's is already seeing directors visiting the store looking for the perfect piece to add to their Community Band library.

Two of our all time favorite selections are Abba on Broadway and Highlights from Jersey Boys; both of these pieces will delight your audience. Another great piece is  Marching Down Broadway featuring “Hey Look Me Over” (Wildcat), “Consider Yourself” (Oliver), and “Seventy-Six Trombones” (The Music Man). If you are looking for a big Broadway medley try The Golden Age of Broadway, featuring “Bali Ha'I” (South Pacific), “Oklahoma” (Oklahoma), “Getting to Know You” (King and I), “The Carousel Waltz” (Carousel), and “Climb Ev'ry Mountain” (The Sound of Music).

We are hoping that this summer brings us great weather and great outdoor concerts, and Stanton's knows that finding the perfect piece to compliment your concert program is crucial to success! For more ideas, read our earlier post, Community Bands Go to the Movies, and check back with us soon to see our suggestions for new Big Band pieces.
