“Ask and Ye Shall Receive” Wednesday, June 16, 2010

A customer of Stanton’s from the state of Washington had an interesting story to share with us after ordering some music for brass quintet and organ for his church:

Apparently the church has a congregation of over 5000 and a huge sanctuary to accommodate them, but at one time had a mediocre pipe organ about which the minister would often complain.  He had finally had enough of the insufficient instrument and during one church service extemporaneously asked to take up a special offering to help buy a new pipe organ.  The plate was passed and came back heaped with contributions – including one check for $1,000,000 from a wealthy member who obviously didn’t care for their current instrument either.  Wow – why can’t the rest of us get contributions like that.  The church collected enough money for a down payment on what was to be one of the largest Reuter pipe organs in the country, which was installed with a warning not to push the volume past two thirds of its capacity to avoid possible structural damage to the building in which it was housed!  An organists dream!  And the brass quintet has a blast playing with it too!

So don’t lose heart when trying to find funding for your own music program; sometimes the right person has just not yet been asked…
