Email Escapades Friday, January 07, 2011

At Stanton’s Sheet Music we get lots of orders on our website from around the world.  You can tell when a customer from overseas is planning to showcase American music.  Especially the customer from Germany who ordered a concert band arrangement of that genuine All-American classic, of which we are so proud, Kelly Clarkson’s, My Life Would Suck Without You.

We figure it must have been something in the translation software from an Indonesian customer who wrote, “Many thanks with the books.  I have received all in a very good condition.  One day I will contact and disturb you again with other orders.”  We hope they feel free to disturb us any time!

When you use email, the thought is that all of your information is immediately accessible to whomever you are contacting…the “big brother is watching” syndrome.  Thankfully, it’s not the case, but that makes it hard to do anything when the only message you get from a customer is “Please ship what you have to us.  Thank you.” and the e-mail address is not the same one that was used to make the order the day before!

At Stanton’s we do our utmost to get our customers what they need, but sometimes a miracle is needed to pull it off.  Unfortunately, we just couldn’t quite come through for the customer who emailed us, writing, “I am trying to find a piece that I don’t know the name or composer of!  It was for piano and string orchestra and the strings were muted for the entire piece.  I believe it was french, or at least had a french title, which might have referenced night in some way, but I might be making that up.  Any ideas?”  Alas, even with the information provided, we had none.

Even with our efforts to be at the forefront of the electronic age, the more information that you, our customers, can supply, the better we can serve you–just as it was fifty years ago when Stanton’s first started, with pencils, paper and reference books.  So keep sending those emails (please disturb us!) supplying as much information as you can (of a researchable nature) and we will do everything we can to get you what you need, because our lives would suck without you!  Thanks!
