Choral Medleys for Spring Monday, February 08, 2021

recommended by Jen Sper and Lora Moore, School Choral Music Specialists

Songs from Toy Story arr. Mac Huff, 2-part with piano and optional combo
Like finally seeing a beloved, long-lost toy from your childhood again, the geniuses at Disney-Pixar have captured the sense of joy and wonder of what it means to have an imagination for an incredible fourth time in the long-running “Toy Story” franchise, and composer Randy Newman has been there every single step of the way. This essential and affectionate medley includes a taste of every installment: “You’ve Got a Friend in Me,” “The Ballad of the Lonesome Cowboy,” “When She Loved Me” and “We Belong Together.”

Hamilton Women arr. Lisa DeSpain, SSA with piano
This fast-paced mini-medley (only 4.5 minutes in length) pays homage to the strong female characters in Lin-Maunuel Miranda’s “Hamilton!” The powerful arrangement includes a few opportunities to showcase outstanding soloists and more than enough SSA writing for all of your singers to shine! Titles include: “Satisfied,” “Burn,” “Helpless,” and “The Schuyler Sisters.”

Hamilton Men arr. Lisa DeSpain, TTB with piano
By turns stirring, sentimental, and hilarious, this dynamic 4-minute medley lets your changed-voice singers explore the many emotional and musical sides of “Hamilton”: launching a revolutionary movement, navigating political hazards, discovering fatherhood, and figuring out how to say goodbye. A robust feature for guys. Titles include: “The Story of Tonight,” “What’d I Miss,” “Dear Theodosia,” and “One Last Time.”

Favorites from The Rat Pack arr. Ryan O’Connell, TTB with piano and optional combo
Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davis Jr. were one of many in the Las Vegas casino scene and made the “rat pack” name famous and beloved. Here is a medley of some of their hits they did individually and as a group in concerts stage television and film. Titles include: “You’re Nobody Til Somebody Loves You,” “Everybody Loves Somebody Sometime” and “Come Fly with Me.”

The Temptations (from Ain’t Too Proud) arr. Mark Brymer, TTBB with piano and optional combo
The 2019 Tony Award-winning jukebox musical “Ain’t Too Proud: The Life and Times of The Temptations” made waves on Broadway by infectiously telling the origin story of the chart-topping, R&B hitmakers from Detroit’s famed Motown Records label. Told from the perspective of founder and frontman Otis Williams, this dazzling medley features the hits you love, including: “Ain’t Too Proud to Beg,” “Get Ready,” “Just My Imagination (Running Away with Me),” “My Girl” and “Papa Was a Rollin’ Stone.”
