Ascensions by Rob Romeyn, Grade 2.5
“Ascensions” is an aggressive concert or festival work of unbridled energy and power! Ascending melodic themes and harmonic structures create tension, and are the basis for this creative and interesting composition. The melodic material is memorable and is shared throughout the entire ensemble, creating interest for the performer and listener alike. Contemporary harmonies, contrasting styles, dynamics, textures and the aforementioned “ascensions” create a dramatic and fresh compositional approach. This is musical adrenaline and excitement at its best!

Crowns of Glory by Jack Wilds, Grade 2.5
This dynamic concert opener is built on an American shape-note melody. Rich percussion textures and modern harmonies breathe new life into a charming pentatonic tune. The result is a unique composition full of exceptional opportunities for music-making.

Lodestar Fanfare by Richard L. Saucedo, Grade 4
Named for the star which is used to guide the course of a ship, this two-minute fanfare for mature players is an exciting way to open any concert. Featuring colorful harmonies, antiphonal passages for the upper woodwinds, and plenty of rhythm energy, your players will enjoy digging into the rewarding technical challenges and the musical pay-off provided by “Lodestar Fanfare!”

Super (Em)Powers by Brian Balmages, Grade 3.5-4
Written to honor United Sound, this piece recognizes that special needs students do not have to be identified by their deficits – rather, they can be identified by their “superpowers.” It may be a student with Downs Syndrome who is always able to make everyone smile, or a non-verbal student who teaches someone to listen in a different way. Celebrate these students with this full-on cinema-style superhero theme! The ultimate in performance flexibility, this piece can be performed in three different ensemble settings: concert band, traditional full orchestra or band and strings combined!

They Solemnly Served by Rossano Galante, Grade 3.5
Pay homage to veterans and the families who have grieved for them. This lyrical work moves between delicate and wistful moments, yet explores the uplifting emotions associated with resolve and hope. A powerful and emotional work.
