Sacred Organ Reading Clinic, January 16th! Thursday, January 07, 2010
Please join us for our first Stanton's Sheet Music sponsored Sacred Organ Reading Clinic! Brian Johnson, organist at Broad Street United Methodist Church, will be our featured clinician, and will be presenting music at various difficulty levels from some of the most popular publishers, such as Morningstar, Lorenz, Concordia, Augsburg and many others. Spend the morning listening to new selection for Lent, Easter, and Pentecost along with many other recommendations for your church services.
Brian Johnson has served as organist at Broad Street United Methodist since March, 1992. His leadership in worship preparation and planning is the focus of his music ministry. Brian holds undergraduate and graduate degrees in organ and sacred music from Wittenberg University. He has completed further studies in music education at Wright State University, Ball State University, Capital University and Westminster Choir College. He earned his specialist diploma in Orff-Schulwerk from the Orff Institute in Salzburg, Austria, and completed Kodaly certification at Capital University. In addition he holds a second graduate degree in school administration from the University of Dayton. He has been a guest organist for the summer movie series at the Ohio Theater in Columbus, OH. In addition to serving Broad Street United Methodist Church as organist and handbell director, Brian is an elementary music specialist in the Columbus Public Schools.
The featured instrument used for the clinic will be a 1906 Felgemaker pipe organ. Its current configuration of four manuals and 60 ranks was done by the Bunn=Minnick Pipe Organ Company in 1981. Last updated in 2008.
