Spring is on it's way…Really? Monday, March 22, 2010
Spring is just around the corner! Really? Yes! Spring IS on its way and it is time to think about and plan for spring programs and just fun songs to teach to your elementary students. We have researched and have come up with some great collections that will help you in choosing exciting and happy spring-time songs. Â
Cheryl Lavender has a wonderful collection titled “A Spring Song Sing-Along”. The songs in this book are set to the tunes of old familiar songs that are easy to learn and fun to sing. One example is “I Am a Little Seed” set to the tune of “Farmer in the Dell“. Another example is “Creepy and Crawly and Great” set to the tune of “Here We Go Looby Loo“. There are a total of 16 different songs in this reproducible collection that covers picnics, ants, swimming and all of the fun activities that happen in the Spring. Â
John Jacobson has a great collection titled “Silly Songs and Sing-Alongs for Spring”. John has also put new lyrics to familiar tunes. Good examples  of these songs are “Let’s Have a Birthday Party” set to the tune of “Skip to My Lou” and “What a Wonderful Spring” to the tune of “By the Beautiful Sea“. Â
Sally Albrecht has a collection of songs that are appropriate for Spring along with every day of the week and each month of the year. Sally’s collection is “Everyday Songs“. A couple of titles from her collection are “Mad About March” and “What’s the Trouble with Thursday?” Â
Let us not forget about another great composer, Jill Gallina who’s collection “Hoppin’ Through the Holidays” is also one to be added to the library of the Elementary/General Music teacher. This collection of 16 various songs for different holidays throughout the year includes “It’s St. Patrick’s Day” and “Let’s Go on an Easter Egg Hunt.” Â
In addition to these collections all being very good and a lot of fun to sing, they each have reproducible pages included in the teacher’s book and there is an accompaniment CD available for each book. Â
It is so  nice to think about green grass and warmer temperatures even though there may be 21 inches of snow on the ground with temperatures in the low 20′s!  Yes,  spring-time is on its way.
