I Used To Play… Monday, March 29, 2010
Have you been thinking about pulling your old instrument out of the closet, dusting off the case, and beginning to play again. If so, Carl Fischer has a new publication that is perfect for getting your chops back into shape while providing you with some fun music to play!
The I Used To Play series is designed for adults who stopped playing their instruments after high school or college and would like to play again without pursuing daunting tomes of etudes and scale exercises .
Divided into four main sections, the books are organized as follows… the first section contains an instrument fingering chart and basic music theory review. The second section contains long tones and instrument specific studies to get your chops back into shape. The third reviews basic scale patterns to redevelop your technique. The final section is a collection of familiar songs in many styles (folk, patriotic, rock, sacred, Christmas, classical, jazz…) with CD accompaniment.
Intended for adults with previous playing and music reading experience, the I Used To Play series is not a beginning method. The author and the musicians at Stanton’s recommend that if you’re learning to play for the first time, you seek out a qualified teacher and an appropriate method book at the teacher’s recommendation.
I Used To Play is currently published for flute, trumpet and violin with other instruments forthcoming. You can order your copy via our website, or give us a call at 1-800-42-MUSIC!
