New piano collections: Classic Hymns Tuesday, July 27, 2010

Here at Stanton’s Sheet Music, our piano department has been pouring over new publications to find the very best to suggest to you. We are excited to welcome Mary McDonald to our store for a free sacred piano clinic on Saturday, August 14th, and we hope you’ll join us here in the store for this special event! In the meantime, here is a “sneak preview” of some of the collections that will be featured:

Classic Hymns For 4-Hand Piano Vol 2
In the style of his first two duo-piano books, Christmas for 4-Hand Piano, and Vol. 1 of Classic Hymns, Joel Raney's latest collection provides a wealth of fresh, creative settings for two pianists to share the bench and work together as an ensemble. Joel has arranged six more favorite hymns for this collection, all pleasingly crafted in a moderate level of difficulty.

The Collected Works of John Carter
This massive anthology represents the last 20 years of John Carter’s creative output for solo piano, encompassing useful hymn settings for the entire churchyear, plus music suitable for weddings. Over 70 titles are included in this beautiful spiral-bound folio including several brand new arrangements by this extremely popular arranger. A useful Contents page lists each title by category, making it an extremely easy-to-use collection. Also included is an index by tune name.

Hymns with a Classical Touch, Volume 2
Cindy’s first piano collection with Lillenas was titled Hymns with a Classical Touch. It is the best-selling Lillenas piano publication ever! This second volume is patterned after that first publication and distinctively blends readily identifiable classical melodies with beloved hymn tunes. Titles include “Going Home” (by Dvorak) with “Hiding in Thee,” “Hornpipe” from Water Music Suites (by Handel) with “O Worship the King,” and “Promenade” from Pictures at an Exhibition (by Mussorgsky) with “Now Thank We All Our God” to name just a few.
