New for High School Choirs for Fall 2013 Monday, August 19, 2013

As you prepare for your first concert of the school year, Stanton’s Sheet Music suggests that you consider one of these outstanding selections for your high school choir:

Awaken the Music! by Greg Gilpin
Inspirational with drive and spirit, this original work is suitable for concert, festival and graduation. Powerful lyrics propel musicians to awaken the music within and achieve their dreams. “Awaken the music. Go tell the world who you are!”

Lake Isle of Innisfree arr. Robert Sieving
Based on one of the most beloved violin pieces, the 2nd movement of Concerto No. 2 by Polish composer Henryk Wieniawski, the text chosen for the piece is famous poem by William Butler Yeats. Arranger Sieving has cleverly crafted an outstanding choral composition, the beautiful melodies of the piece a joy to sing, the drama of the original intact.

Sing with the Lark by Laura Farnell
Poet Paul Laurence Dunbar provides the text for this uplifting work with a memorable melody and excellent ranges for developing choirs. Add the optional flute part for a lush concert experience.

Savor So by Darmon Meader
The verb “savor” is defined “to enjoy with zest, to relish.” And so this lush, soulful a cappella choral should be “savored” by all, as it identifies those many earthly joys we treasure in life.

The Roof by Andrea Ramsey
With a poetic text written by a young poet, this work perfectly captures the vulnerability of growing up, with beautiful imagery of a roof as steady, sheltering, inclusive and warm – things all people need, but especially the young. With rich harmonies, arching phrases and violin obbligato, this is a stunning work for concert and festival programming.

Under Winter Moon by Andy Beck
Accompanied by a delicate piano (symbolizing falling snow) and an optional cello (the lustrous moon), expressively rich choral parts capture the beauty of a winter night. It quiets the mind and touches the soul.
