Happy New Year! Monday, December 23, 2013
“Should Auld Acquaintance Be Forgot…” “for Auld Lang Syne” may be loosely translated as “for the sake of old times.” Robert Burns, a Scottish poet, collected the words and set them to a Scottish folk tune in 1788. Since then, the song has spread through the English-speaking world as the song sung for the New Year as the clock strikes midnight. We can only imagine that Robert Burns never expected his song to be such a perennial favorite! Stanton’s has the sheet music for this traditional New Year’s song, and lots of other holiday sheet music.
