Jabberwocky! Wednesday, June 03, 2015
Usually, one associates John Carter with sacred choral or piano music. This delightful departure from that genre is “Jabberwocky!” The poem, from Lewis Carroll’s “Through the Looking-Glass, and what Alice Found There”, has been musically illustrated in eight pieces. “The Tumtum Tree” is suitably reflective, and “The Jabberwock” is appropriately ominous. This humorous collection was commissioned by a long-time friend of John Carter’s, Harvey H. Scholl. Written on an intermediate level, this sheet music for piano solo is suitable for recitals or other performances. (Perhaps a reading of the poem, accompanied by the pieces?)
