Music from THE PROM Wednesday, December 09, 2020

Don’t miss THE PROM, the star-studded film adaptation of the Broadway show by Matthew Sklar and Chad Beguelin, premiering on Netflix on Friday December 11!

In “The Prom,” Dee Dee Allen (Meryl Streep) and Barry Glickman (James Corden) are New York City stage stars with a crisis on their hands: their expensive new Broadway show is a major flop that has suddenly flat lined their careers. Meanwhile, in small-town Indiana, high school student Emma Nolan (Jo Ellen Pellman) is experiencing a very different kind of heartbreak: despite the support of the high school principal (Keegan-Michael Key), Mrs. Greene (Kerry Washington) the head of the PTA has banned her from attending the prom with her girlfriend, Alyssa (Ariana DeBose). When Dee Dee and Barry decide that Emma’s predicament is the perfect cause to help resurrect their public images, they hit the road with Angie Dickinson (Nicole Kidman) and Trent Oliver (Andrew Rannells), another pair of cynical actors looking for a professional lift. But when their self-absorbed celebrity activism unexpectedly backfires, the foursome find their own lives upended as they rally to give Emma a night where she can truly celebrate who she is.

Available from “The Prom”:
Unruly Heart arr. Greg Gilpin, SATB, SAB, and SSA with piano
“Nobody out there ever gets to define the life I’m meant to lead with this unruly heart of mine.” This powerful message of equality resonates strongly. No matter how your choir members interpret the liberating words, they’ll continue to sing them long after rehearsal ends. A warm ballad that grows to full choral impact.

Zazz arr. Andy Beck, SATB, SAB, SSA, and 2-part with piano and optional combo
From the writers of the popular Broadway musical “Elf,” this showbiz showstopper will bring the house down! Flashy lyrics offer several laugh lines such as “if your hands are shaking, just turn ’em into jazz hands,” plus a humorous shout-out to world-famous choreographer Bob Fosse, suggesting he would “make the people have a step-ball-change of heart.” Fun to sing, stage, and perform – with razzle dazzle to spare!
