At the Break of Dawn by Patrick Roszell, Grade 2
An original and serene lyrical selection inspired by a beach sunrise, this work is accessible to young and developing players yet not very demanding on the flute section. Sit back and enjoy the musically refreshing sounds. Charming!
Energy by Adrian B. Sims, Grade 2.5
Like its title implies, this highly aggressive work is based on a combination of invigorating melodies and a relentless rhythmic drive. Musical lines weave throughout the ensemble, soaring countermelodies take center stage, and an increasingly intense final passage takes the piece to an entirely new level. Simply put, this one is full of energy!
Lone Eagle by Robert Sheldon, Grade 3
A soaring and majestic work that will stand out at any concert or festival program. Active and spry from the start, this uplifting overture features colorful energetic themes that are contrasted with calm and serene moments of quiet lyricism. A total musical offering that will have bands sounding their very best.
Protostar by Jorge L. Vargas, Grade 2
This composition depicts the formation of a protostar, when gas clouds and extremely cold temperatures cause gravity to collapse, allowing it to spin and emit light. “Protostar” gives young bands the opportunity to explore unique harmonies, chord structures, and dissonances that they would normally not encounter.
Tectonic Plates by Adrian B. Sims, Grade 3.5
Filled with excitement and unpredictability, this work takes listeners on a journey through the inner workings of the planet. From musical depictions of seismic activity (characterized by swells in the brass and percussion) to the sounds of an earthquake, the piece reflects not only destruction, but also the resulting beautiful landscapes, mountains, and oceans. A powerful work!
