Easy Hymns for Organ Wednesday, March 31, 2021

recommended by Caryn G. and Judy S., Sacred Keyboard Music Specialists

Easy Hymns for Organ compiled by Carson Cooman, for Easy Organ 2-staff
This collection of practical, easy hymn settings represents the work of a variety of composers and arrangers and draws largely on material originally commissioned for Lorenz’s long-running magazine, “The Organist.” The pieces are contrasting in character and can serve as prelude, offertories, postludes, and other sorts of service music. While all these tunes appear in many standard hymnals, a good number of them are hymns for which there is significantly less published organ literature available. Titles include: “Blessed Assurance,” “All Glory, Laud, and Honor,” “Christ, Whose Glory Fills the Skies,” “Come, Holy Traveler,” “For Me to Live Is Jesus,” “He Leadeth Me,” “How Can I Keep from Singing?,” “Immortal, Invisible, God Only Wise,” “Jesus, Bread of Life, I Pray Thee,” “Jesus, Lover of My Soul,” “Meditation on Strength and Stay,” “My Faith Looks Up to Thee,” “O Bless the Lord, My Soul!,” “O Day of Radiant Gladness,” “Offertory on Kedron,” “One Lord, One Faith, One Birth,” “Postlude on O Zion Haste,” “Postlude on St. Patrick’s Breastplate,” “Postlude on Ye Watchers and Ye Holy Ones,” “Praise to the Lord, the Almighty,” “Prelude on Promised Land,” “Reflection on Bradbury,” “Sweet Hour of Prayer,” “There Is a Balm in Gilead,” “There Is No Name So Sweet,” “Trumpet Voluntary on Rejoice, the Lord Is King,” “Variations on St. Magnus,” “Voluntary on Brother James’ Air,” and “We Walk by Faith.”
