All the Pretty Little Horses arr. Jason K. Nitsch, Grade 3
One of most hauntingly beautiful folk songs is given a fresh new modern treatment by composer Jason K. Nitsch. Jason keeps the mysterious integrity of the song, while adding colorful timbres and textures in winds and percussion, along with creative harmonic choice. This is simply beautiful!
Cascading Trumpets by Albert O. Davis, Grade 3
For trumpet or flute quartet and band, “Cascading Trumpets” by Albert O. Davis is a bright, shimmering cascade of excitement. Scored to allow either ensemble to be heard well, both band and ensemble parts are accessible and interesting.
The Country Club Stomp! by Jarod Hall, Grade 3
Experience a New Orleans vibe with this exciting, parade-inspired crowd pleaser! A celebration of music, life, and love, this piece has an infectious rhythmic groove and spirited melody. Elements of jazz occur throughout, and there is strong reference to the West African circle dances from which this music evolved. Stellar writing that is fun, catchy, informative, and spirited!
For Country and Courage by Travis J. Weller, Grade 2
A perfect piece for that upcoming patriotic concert! Travis J. Weller has given us a wonderfully accessible piece for developing bands.
The Children’s Ball by John Philip Sousa/arr. Loras John Schissel, Grade 4
Sousa wrote much more than marches. This particular work arranged by Loras John Schissel is from a suite entitled “Camera Studies: Music for an Imaginary Film.” It is clearly Sousa but not the Sousa of the famous marches. A fascinating and engaging work!
