Spark of Light: Creative Programming for Tenor/Bass Choir Friday, January 12, 2024
recommended by Jen Sper and Lisa Springer, School Choral Music Specialists
Spark of Light by Andrew Steffen, TBB with piano
Steffan’s writing crackles with energy and interest! The pulsating piano accompaniment enhances the interesting and varied vocal lines set to lyrics from a compelling text, sure to be a favorite at any concert or festival performance. Highly recommend!
We Sing the Mighty Power of God arr. Brent Wells, TTBB with 4-hand piano and percussion
Brent Wells’ triumphant arrangement of the well-known hymn is a wonderful selection for TTBB choir. With alternate secular lyrics by author Toni Thomas, this work can also be a celebration of brotherhood and singing. Percussion and four-hand piano add to the grandeur.
Prairie Lullaby (Home on the Range) arr. Jacob Narverud, TBB with piano
This classic American folk song has been reimagined as a gentle, peaceful lullaby for choir with piano. Narverud incorporates American pastoral sounds with fresh, contemporary harmonies, a new verse, and an optional descant. Beautiful and accessible, this tender ballad will be a lovely addition to any program.
Bonnie Hielan Laddie arr. Tom Schreck, TTBB a cappella
“Bonnie Hielan Laddie” is a traditional sea shanty originating in Scotland. The text is a message from a veteran seafarer to a young new recruit. Singable and fun in the style of the beloved Parker and Shaw arrangements.
