You Belong with Me and More Pops for High School Choir Friday, September 13, 2024

recommended by Jen Sper and Lisa Springer, School Choral Music Specialists

You Belong with Me arr. Bryan Sharpe, SATB a cappella
A Taylor Swift hit in three voicings! Bryan’s contemporary a cappella arrangement bubbles with youthful charm. There’s no divisi, but a full palette of choral colors is on display. A featured soloist is accompanied in a variety of ways by the other voices as they imitate instruments of a pop band. It’s a blast from start to finish.

Steppin’ Out with My Baby (with Puttin’ on the Ritz) arr. Mark Hayes, SATB with piano and optional combo
Two of Irving Berlin’s most lively songs are married perfectly here in this fun swing, perfect for mixed voices of many ages as well as men’s choirs and ensembles. What fun to add simple choreography and some costume flair to your performance pulling inspiration from the many generations of artists that have performed and recorded these songs for radio, television, and movies. A wonderfully classy performance piece your singers and audience will love!

True Colors arr. Tim Brent, SATB with piano
Now available for SATB voices, Tim Brent’s take on the quintessential ’80s message of individuality has opportunities for a soloist to shine while supported by well-written, jazzy harmonies and an inventive piano part!

Who Loves You arr. Alan Billingsley, SATB with piano and optional rhythm
The instantly recognizable chorus of “Who Loves You” is a watershed moment in the hit making career of Frankie Valli, as this 1975 Disco hit reignited the Four Seasons popularity and reaffirmed them as vocal powerhouses. We invite your choir to participate in this absurdly fun arrangement!

Talking to the Moon arr. Cristi Cary Miller, SSA with piano
A haunting pop ballad with poetic lyrics and a melody that will echo in your mind, Bruno Mars’ “Talking to the Moon” is given a stellar choral treatment by Cristi Cary Miller. Intricate vocals and a driving piano part combine in a sweeping, cinematic sound.

(They Long to Be) Close to You arr. Mac Huff, SSA with piano and optional rhythm
Program a sweet throwback moment in your concert with this seventies classic. The iconic harmonies and fun nostalgia will make your audience want to join in!

And So It Goes arr. Audrey Snyder, TTB with piano
Billy Joel’s hauntingly beautiful ballad sings easily for concert choirs or pop ensembles in this simple, tasteful arrangement. “And so it goes, and so it goes, and you’re the only one who knows.” This is very sweet.
