Dello Joio?  Does that name sound familiar?  Justin Dello Joio is the son of Norman Dello Joio, so Justin has been around the piano and composing since he was born.  Justin Dello Joio has an impressive list of awards and accomplishments.  His latest off-the-press composition is “Sonata for Piano”.  It is dedicated to Vincent Persichetti, with whom he studied piano at the Julliard School.  This is not an easy piece. It is full of energy and intensity.  Especially if you enjoy 20th and 21st century music, you need to check this out.  It’s incredible.  There is a recording of Garrick Ohlsson playing “Sonata for Piano” from Bridge records.  Classical music is not frozen in time at Bach, Beethoven and Brahms.  Classical music is alive, so it changes and grows.  So explore, dive in!
