American Visions by Mark Lortz,Grade 3
Composed to embody the sense of American vigor and patriotism, this fast-paced and energetic fanfare, concert opener or contest selection features rousing brass fanfares, lively woodwind motives, and driving percussion. Using a simple motive that alternates between duple and triplet rhythms, this is a great selection to use for teaching the difference between the two. A contrasting middle section can be used for developing characteristic warm concert band sounds while a return to the initial material with an additional countermelody can be used for balance and blend development.

Kaleidoscope Sky by Peter Sciaino, Grade 3
Inspired by hot air ballooning, this concert or contest composition starts with a celebratory feel with soaring melodic material and progresses to a suspenseful, yet graceful, completion. Multiple dynamic, phrasing and articulation demands in all sections combined with meter changes will challenge your players while rewarding your audiences.

Beyond Reach by Adrian B. Sims, Grade 3
Reminiscent of a movie soundtrack, “Beyond Reach” by Adrian B. Sims characterizes an action-filled journey depicting the trek towards an unseen opposition. This work is full of unforgettable melodic lines and explores a unique variety of harmonic twists and turns. Filled with anticipation, hope, fear, and bravery, the adventurers unabashedly charge into combat, ultimately emerging victorious.

Rocket Surgery by Chris Campbell, Grade 3
Written for smaller bands with limited instrumentation that are looking for more challenging compositions, this complex composition will develop musicians counting and rhythmic precision skills while also working on cut-time and tonguing. Definitely a different type of composition, this will entertain performers and audiences alike with its tongue-in-cheek approach.
