Coming Back by Tyler Arcari, Grade 2
Commissioned during Covid-19, this work is meant to inspire us as we “Come Back” to normal. Hopeful, and mostly upbeat, the work has moments of tension and sadness that underscore the year that we have had through music. We all hope to get back to normal soon, and “Coming Back” is a perfect anthem for that sentiment.

(You Are) Amazing by Brian Balmages, Grade 2.5-3
Pay it forward with this message of hope, joy and beauty. Inspired by a sidewalk chalk message, the uplifting music reminds us that we each bring something unique and valuable to the world. Simple time signatures combine with a driving, syncopated rhythmic background to create a work that is spirited and forever joyful!

Missing You by Anthony Susi, Grade 3
This stirring minor key work captures the longing in the human soul as melodic phrases effectively express the sorrow and loneliness felt from the absence of a loved one. The recurrent sweeping counter-lines in the viola and cello reflect the swelling tears, and the violin tremolos the anguish that comes from yearning for their return. In a brief faster section near the end, the imagination is taken to a possible reunion with the missing loved one. Performers and audiences alike will connect to this sensitive emotion that we all experience at one time or another through life.

Through the Dark Domain by Doug Spata, Grade 3
“Through the Dark Domain” by Doug Spata is a thrilling, cinematic journey perfect for your next concert or contest program. Each section of the orchestra gets a chance to play the bold melodies, shimmering ostinatos, and expressive lyrical passages before coming to a dramatic and triumphant conclusion. Featuring a high degree of part independence and opportunities for shifting in all the parts, students will love the fiery, impassioned style of this piece.
