Winterscape by Gavin Lendt, Grade 3.5

Several Christmas melodies are used in whole and in part to create a work that will sound both familiar and new to your concert audience. Colorful orchestration, dance rhythms, and masterful harmony are used to great effect in a piece that is sure to become a favorite at your next winter or festival concert.

Housetop Fantasy arr. Richard L. Saucedo, Grade 3
Using the holiday classic “Up on the Housetop” as a point of departure, Richard Saucedo spins a masterful contemporary setting filled with clever scoring devices and unexpected dramatic moments. This unique and appealing arrangement is sure to become a favorite for winter concerts.

Jingle Bells arr. Morton Gould/ed. R. Mark Rogers, Grade 4
Morton Gould’s setting of JINGLE BELLS calls to mind the quiet sounds of a horse-drawn sleigh passing through newly fallen snow. Beginning softly, as if the sleigh is approaching the listener from a distance and ending softly as the sleigh disappears in the distance, Gould’s setting will challenge players and delight audiences.

Walkin’ Down Christmas Lane arr. JaRod Hall, Grade 3
Experience this merry journey through a spirited soundscape! This captivating medley brilliantly interlaces holiday classics with funk and hip-hop rhythms, soulful gospel, and an emotive ballad. Every note will lift your spirit as you deck the halls with joyful jams!

The Magic of Hanukkah arr. Rob Romeyn, Grade 2.5
The rich “Festival of Lights” celebrated at Hanukkah has been celebrated around the world for generations, and with it comes wonderful music. Rob Romeyn’s “The Magic of Hanukkah” is a wonderfully upbeat arrangement for developing band that will be a highlight of any holiday concert program. Opening with a lyrical setting of “Maoz Tzur” that features changing textures and fresh, contemporary harmonies, we transition to the delightful “Dreidel Song” with creative musical development and a fun and engaging tempo change. The celebration then comes to a close with a rousing and exciting ending audiences will love.
