A Vision Unfolding by Kyle Pederson, SATB with piano and optional violin, trumpet & snare drum
An exciting extended work by Kyle Pederson, exploring themes of justice, community, and inclusivity. This five-movement, genre-bending work is for SATB chorus, with piano, spoken word, and optional violin, snare drum, and trumpet.

Individual movements are available separately:

Reach Down, Lord (#1 from A Vision Unfolding)
This gospel style-inspired piece, appropriate for both sacred and secular settings, provides a powerful introduction to themes of justice and trial/tribulation.

Beat! Drums! (#2 from A Vision Unfolding)
The music mirrors Walt Whitman’s impactful war poem – the beat of the drum, blow of the bugle, and meter/rhythm changes highlighting the incessancy of the text and the call to justice.

All of Me (#3 from A Vision Unfolding)
This beautiful piece explores aspects of identity and inclusion and invites us to lay down our judgments of others. Musically, the piece reads as a blend of styles – pop ballad meets lovely choral, and will immediately resonate with choirs and listeners.

Light Transforms the Darkness (#4 from A Vision Unfolding)
This blues/pop-inspired piece is a call to action – to live our light and love out into the world.

I Dream a World (#5 from A Vision Unfolding)
There are many choral settings of this vision-casting, iconic Langston Hughes poem, but Pederson’s treatment deserves serious consideration. Soaring melody lines, lush harmonies, and a thunderous conclusion that invites us all to say, “yes… that’s a vision I want to help make real.”
